Newborn

Pin It  Maternity

I have been known to coax more than a few of my girlfriends into allowing me the privilege of freezing the last months of pregnancy, even if the pictures are solely for private viewing and remembrance.  I can attest that my own children delight in seeing photos of me while pregnant with them, and I do believe these pictures are absolutely priceless. I am forever grateful to have them.

Pregnancy is a time of beauty and glow, those priceless months that you are the only person connected physically to your child.  There are a variety of creative ways to showcase that special connection, and I will do so with the utmost taste and attention to your needs.  From belly painting to silhouettes and everything in between, we will work together to capture just the right images of your pregnancy with style and class.

I find that the best time to photograph is right around the end of the sixth month, into the beginning of the eighth.  Of course, I would be delighted to schedule at any time during your pregnancy that you wish to be photographed.

Newborns

Newborn shoots are best in the privacy of your own home. As this time is so very fleeting, I take pride in taking as much time as needed to get just the right portraits of your baby. For this reason, I take very limited newborn sessions per month.

In order to facilitate the most comfortable session possible for you and your family, I do have a few tips and requests in order to achieve the best images from our session together.

First, it is essential to capture your baby in the first couple of weeks, and preferably in the first ten days of life.  While I will certainly schedule the traditional newborn session up to day 14, it has been my experience that your baby is most comfortable at the 5-8 day mark.  It is during this time that their skin is the clearest, and that they are most comfortable with the curled up poses that you have likely seen out and about.  Because your baby’s comfort and safety are of utmost importance to me, I will only pose them to the extent that they will allow, and I have found that the sooner I work with them the better the flow of the session. Clients have found that it is best to consult while they are still pregnant, giving me a general time frame for scheduling.  Of course, most babies come on their own schedule, so calling me within a day or two of birth to solidify your date is perfectly fine.  I do leave plenty of availability open around the time of expected arrival.

I shoot newborns in natural light. Sliding doors are perfect for this, as are large windows.  Occasionally, clients have opted to shoot on patios, porches, or even outdoors (my favorite!). We will go over the various options in our pre session consultation, and I am happy to make a trip to your home to check lighting before the big day. This may involve moving furniture, but rest assured that I will leave your home in the same state it was when I arrived.  Also, please don’t worry about making your home spotless.  I can assure you that I am not Martha Stewart, and my own home is a hotbed of beautiful chaos at any given time. I am there to help you capture beautiful memories, not judge your housekeeping skills.  I promise!

Newborn shoots can be accomplished in as few as two hours and have taken up to four.  Please allow for up to four hours of photography. Your baby is in charge here and babies need to eat, sleep, and snuggle on their own schedule.  Again, safety and comfort are my first priority, especially for my tiniest of clients.

I look forward to working with your family and capturing your beautiful story in images.
